A workshop for leaders

From Firefighting to Growth

When urgency and overwhelm become the operating mode, it spreads.  Give your leaders the language, the framework, and the small specific moves to break that cycle for themselves and the people they lead.

The moment we're in

Leaders right now are navigating more change, more uncertainty, and more demand than at any recent point in memory. The cumulative weight of leading through all of it is narrowing the very capacity organizations need most: the ability to think clearly, lead creatively, and build the kind of culture that brings out the best in people.

Under sustained pressure, the brain narrows. Leaders in reactive mode aren't just having hard days. They are, without meaning to, sustaining the very urgency and disengagement they're trying to manage. This is happening at exactly the moment when the scale of change creates a genuine opening: to lead differently, build differently, and reclaim the creative leadership this moment is asking for.

This session is designed for that opening.

What happens in the room

From Firefighting to Growth designed as a working session: facilitated discussion, applied reflection, small group storytelling, and designing next steps.

The workshop moves through four connected beats:

01.

Why urgency narrows leadership, and what's happening in the brain when it does.

02.

A simple framework to recognize the pattern in real time — in yourself and in the room — before it spreads.

03.

The specific behaviours that either compound urgency or build capacity, across three levels: in yourself, your people, and the system you're in.

04.

Each leader leaves with a personal micro-move list and one specific action they'll take within five days.

What people take away

Most leadership learning fades within a week. This is designed to work against that.

Each leader leaves with one concrete commitment: a specific next step tied to a real timeframe, that they will commit to out loud before the session ends.

Who this is for

This session works for senior leaders, mid-level leaders, and mixed cohorts, including staff.

With a flexible design, the workshop adapts to context and level: the underlying work is the same, and the conversation shapes itself to the room.

Versions of this workshop have been delivered to:

  • Executive peer forums

  • Leadership teams

  • Senior and mid-level leadership cohorts

  • HR-sponsored development series

  • Cross-level culture initiatives

For organizations using this as part of a broader culture effort: the framework and tools are simple enough to travel through levels. A leadership team and their direct reports can be working in the same language within weeks.

What comes next

The session works on its own, or it can be the start of a sustained relationship.

Kate is usually hired by HR, L&D, a senior leader, or the CEO. After every session, Kate offers a debrief conversation with that sponsor: a chance to look at what surfaced in the room and what it might open for your leaders, your team, or your organization.

For those ready to go further, that conversation often becomes the starting point for coaching, team development, or a leadership development program built around the specific shifts your leaders are working on.

Kate Boyle, M.Ed

Kate is a leadership coach and facilitator with 20+ years working with purpose-driven leaders and organizations.

She designed this session from direct work with leaders and leadership teams navigating real complexity, as a response to a pattern she kept seeing up close.

She works with organizations at both levels: with leadership teams on culture and strategy, and with individual leaders on the shift from reactive to deliberate. The session is an entry point to that work.
